Does Rockford really need another church?
Before our charter service in December 2002, we wondered about that question that ourselves (and prayed over it, too, for six months).
We have many friends in this upstate Illinois region who agree with us about the historic fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith.
There are other "good churches" in our area who preach Jesus Christ faithfully, rejoicing in the continual centrality of
the Gospel and the trustworthy authority of God's Word.
We have prayed about whether or not God would have us stay and grow here, and we believe He has led us to do that.
We believe that in Rockford and the surrounding towns, not everyone is acquainted with the God of the Bible. There is always room
for a Word-centered ministry that would lift up the name of Jesus Christ and the Word of God.
Those who have become a part of the Morning Star family have very different stories and come from different backgrounds with different baggage.
We didn't all grow up "Baptist" or even in church. We don't all share the same ethnic and cultural heritage. (And we certainly aren't all Bears fans.)
Even if we were, those "easy commonalities" wouldn't be the common bonds that cause us to enjoy getting together as much as we do.
We enjoy a community of grace, unity in diversity, and the opportunity to grow closer to God and to each other because of the finished sacrifice and ongoing saving work of Jesus Christ.
